Fluff, Dreams & Mini Highland Cattle

Where My Love for Highlands Began
My little Highland cattle journey just started recently, but I’ve always had a love for Highlands. I mean — look at those fluffy faces, how could you not fall in love?

I remember being a kid and seeing a Highland cow Beanie Baby sitting on my grandma’s dresser. She loved them too. I really wish she was here now to see the real thing in person — she passed away a couple of years ago, but I carry that memory with me.

Taking the Leap: Finding Our First Highland
My family and I had been talking about getting into beef cattle when I mentioned that I’d always dreamed of having a Highland cattle farm. Being the supportive people they are, they said, “Well, why not?”

So I set out to see what was available in my price range — and that’s when I found the most handsome boy from Miniasses and Haircoos, right here in Oklahoma. When we put the deposit down, I literally cried happy tears!

Building a Herd with Heart & Patience
I know building a herd takes time. Finding cattle with good conformation and developing a quality program doesn’t happen overnight. But I’m in this for the long haul. I’ve decided to start with Highland crosses, but I’ll be adding some pure Highlands too — a nice mix of fluff and color.

I cannot wait for my first calves to arrive. It’s going to be such a surreal experience — one I’m truly looking forward to. 💕
